A Dot Matrix Display is a display device used
to display information on machines, clocks, railway departure indicators and
many other devices requiring a simple display device of limited resolution.
The display consists of a matrix of lights or mechanical indicators arranged in a rectangular configuration (other shapes are also possible, although not common) such that by switching on or off selected lights, text or graphics can be displayed.
A dot matrix controller converts instructions from a processor into signals which turns on or off lights in the matrix so that the required display is produced.

The most common form of Rectangular box expressed by
5x7 LED Dot Matrix which are widely available in a variety of
Size Range: 0.7", 1", 1.2", 1.5", 1.8", 2", and 4" and
Colors available: Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, White and Duel color (red & green).

The use of a LEDs dot matrix for creating a text display system is quite common with its usage expanding greatly in recent years.
The wide usage of LED displays is a result of its ability to convey information to large audiences quickly and efficiently. As LED displays are often controlled by digital technology the information can swiftly and easily be updated.
This feature of LED displays has led to a great flexibility of such products in countless applications.
An additional benefit of using this form of display is that LEDs are a very efficient form of illumination. Unlike incandescent bulbs, LEDs do not generate a large amount of wasted energy in the form of heat.
LEDs are taken onto use in most of the modern display as they have certain characteristics.
It can work upon small voltage
Uses less power
More efficient
Small size
Versatility in luminescence color

This Led Dot Matrix Module has simple but tricky
connection construction. Thus their pins are aligned in a similar fashion to a
Dual-In-Line integrated circuit. The pin configuration made it easy to push in and
orientate the LED modules on breadboard and strip board.
In this Led Module, Five vertical columns and seven
horizontal rows are there. 5x7 Module contains 35 LED in one segment. This
segments are using for making one large panel of Led Module.
There are two types of Led Dot Matrix Module are shown in Fig.9b with
their Pin indications which
as follows:
1) Common Cathode

cathode connection. It means that
+Vcc applied to the columns and ground
applied to the rows.
